Work and Travel Program

The Work and Travel USA Program is a unique way for overseas students to experience the American way of life, while earning money to cover living expenses. As a participant, in Work and Travel USA you will embark on an exciting experience that allows you to travel, earn money and learn about life and culture in the United States in a way which would be impossible as a tourist. You will see, how Americans work, live and play. During your summer you may expect to earn at least the minimum wage ($5.15/hour). (Students generally earn between $6-7 per hour.)

This program enables you to work during your summer holiday period (maximum 4 months). You may spend an additional month for travel purposes in the US (total maximum stay: 5 months). This program is non-extendable.

Your program sponsor issues you the DS 2019 form, certificate of eligibility required to apply for the J-1 visa.

Participants should have a pre-arranged job before arriving in the United States. Students have the option of undertaking the work commitment the sponsor arranges or arranging their own job.

Who is eligible?

• Participants must be 18-30 years of age and registered as full time students at a university or other recognized institution of higher education in Hungary.
• Participants are not in their first or last year of study.
• Participants must have sufficient English proficiency.
• Participants should have a pre-arranged job and a minimum of $600 available in order to support themselves upon arrival in the U.S.
• Participants are authorized to work for maximum 4 months. Participants may stay for an additional month for travel purposes after the work period.
• Insurance is compulsory and included in the program fee.
• Participants' passport must be valid for at least 6 months longer than your planned return date from the U.S.
• All participants must attend a pre-departure orientation.

Services we give you

• DS 2019 form, certificate of eligibility necessary to apply for the J-1 visa, which authorizes you to work legally in the U.S.
• Fully comprehensive insurance coverage in accordance with U.S. government requirements.
• A mandatory post-arrival orientation in New York which covers essential information needed to work in the US.
• Full support and emergency assistance from the US office during your stay.
• Sponsor's letter necessary for applying for the Social Security Card upon your arrival in the U.S.
• Information on how to get the social security card.
• Airport pick up only for groups of minimum 25 students (NYC arrival).

About jobs

You may work anywhere in the United States in almost every position, except the following fields: medical jobs, au-pair, baby-sitting, international ship or aeroplane and summer camps, domestic jobs at private homes.

We have a lot but a limited number of DS 2019 forms. This means that we can guarantee a DS 2019 form only for pre-registered students. Please contact us for pre-registration in the opening hours (see on the bottom). We provide you with application forms and advice on how to find a job. A pre-registration fee of 5000 HUF is due upon pre-registration.
